Pitch and Putt is a scaled down version of the real game of golf. The basic difference is that the holes in Pitch and Putt can be no longer than 100 yards.
In all other aspects the courses can be just as challenging as full-sized golf courses, with fairways and rough, sand bunkers, water hazards, and strategically planted vegetation.
Playing a full-sized golf course for the first time requires a degree of skill, since the holes can be more than 500 yards. The beauty of Pitch and Putt Golf is that it is ideal for everyone, regardless of whether they can actually play the game or not!
For children as young as seven, the shorter course makes the game manageable, and therefore more enjoyable. The smaller distances also mean that Pitch and Putt Golf can be an activity for the whole family to do together.
Many adults take up the game of golf for the first time after having lessons from the pro. and hitting endless golf balls on the driving range. Pitch and Putt golf can be their first experience of the real game. All the shots are there - driving, pitching, chipping and putting - but without the thought that you might have hit the ball six times and you’re still 300 yards from the hole!
Experienced golfers often use Pitch and Putt Golf Courses to practice their short game.
Any golfer will tell you ‘Drive for show, putt for dough’.
Unlike golf, where you need to be kitted out with trolley, bag, clubs, balls, tees, and pencil, and then must be dressed in the proper way, you can turn up to a Pitch and Putt Course with nothing, and still be playing within five minutes.
For a small hire charge, you will be given a pitching club, (no. 8, 9, or pitching wedge) and a putter, a ball, some tees, and a pencil for the scorecard and off you go!
You can bring your own equipment if you have it, but, for safety reasons the course staff will check that you are not using unsuitable clubs, such as a driver.

This web site features just two - the Palewell and Gunnersbury courses, both of which are in South-west London. However, there are numerous other courses throughout London and nationwide.
In the future we plan to include more facilities on this site, including links to other courses. In the meantime, most Pitch and Putt Golf Courses are overseen by Local Authorities, so you should be able to find information via the Authorities' sites.
